Twitter, a microblogging platform, is finally ready to launch its advertising API in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, according to the sources, reported by TechCrunch. Experts are of the opinion that Twitter will achieve the level of $1 billion in advertising revenues and this launch of mass-marketing will obviously accelerate the process to achieve the expected target.

This advertising campaign will be able to attract the huge advertisers and their agencies in the market for a sort of win-win relationship in which the advertisers will launch the campaigns on the social network with sophisticated targeting and Twitter will get earnings.

According to some of the sources, the company has started talking with social media marketing agencies just before the holidays.

“I have been in discussions with Twitter and they contacted us right before the holidays saying it was getting close to having their advertising API ready,” one executive said.

“We’re excited to include Twitter ad API capability once it becomes readily available for release because large advertisers are ready to scale campaigns there,” said Luis Caballero, the COO of Blinq, the social media agency bought by Gannett last year.

“As an advertiser, we’re going to be taking more advantage of Twitter in 2013, and anything that they can do to enable this, will be a good thing in my book,” one marketing head told Ingrid Lunden of TechCrunch.

Twitter started advertising, covering formats such as Promoted Tweets, on its platform in April 2010.

Facebook, like Twitter, also gets a huge amount from advertising.
